Technical assistance to Urban transport strategy in India.

Client: Asian Development Bank (ADB)

The TA aimed to provide urban transport toolkits to medium-sized cities in India to improve their transport planning approach and to assist in the process of their application of central funds. Further, to provide a guideline for the Ministry of Urban development to appraise the cities’ applications for financial assistance.

PADECO INDIA team did the below mentioned tasks for this project •

Reviewed Indian urban transport policy.

Identified key characteristics of medium-sized Indian cities.

Examined the existing framework for infrastructure funding/relevant ongoing studies.

Reviewed globally available physical and non-physical transport measures and their applicability to Indian cities.

Assessed the impact of transport measures already implemented in Indian cities.

Identified the critical factors for the selection of appropriate measures and used these to prepare guidelines and a toolkit to appraise measures.

Prepared alternative transport development strategies; and developed detailed guidelines and toolkits for bus service improvements, master planning, bus rapid transit, parking, and non-motorized transport. These were disseminated to Indian cities in both hard and electronic formats, and training materials were also provided
