Mumbai Suburban Railway is having more than 169 nos. in Central Railway and more than 100 numbers of EMU rakes in Western Railway. To maintain these rakes a maintenance regime is followed, which includes POH (periodic overhauling) and running maintenance i.e., inspection schedules-trip schedule and daily night inspection schedule at a defined interval.
The purpose of the project is to develop a comprehensive long-term plan for improving the efficiency of maintenance of EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) trains and provide adequate capacity for a planned increase in the size of the fleet by rationalizing and modernizing the maintenance system as well as modernizing and expanding the facilities at car sheds and workshops.
Reviewing in detail, the current EMU maintenance management system.
To propose improvements in the maintenance system so that peak hour availability of EMU could improve.
Review the fault reporting procedure as well as incidents of faults on a sample basis and recommend the procedure for fault reporting requiring rapid response for faults affecting safety (including routine incident and emergency), train services, and passenger services.
Assessing the capacity at existing car sheds, POH workshops and stabling lines including facilities/equipment's in respect of quality control, diagnostic testing, testing after repairs, specialized labs for electronic pieces of equipment, etc.
To propose improvements in layouts including technical feasibility of interlock movement within car sheds and maintenance infrastructure at car sheds and workshops.
PADECO INDIA proposed a new depot at Bhivpuri in Central Railways and another new depot at Vangaon in Western Railways. Our team efforts are focused on setting up a new Depot with modern infrastructure Civil facility, to deal with maintenance requirements of electrical and mechanical system, machinery, and plant of modern air-conditioned rakes, which are having vestibules, an automatic door closing, and a greater number of underslung equipment.
While making recommendations on such equipping; our team also has considered the modern practices adopted in the Metro system, the world over as well as in India. PADECO team of experts provided necessary inputs to be given to the existing infrastructure facility so that it all facilitates maintenance of existing rakes with better reliability and quick repair/maintenance time.
