India has the largest malnourished population, and it is reported that half of the Indian infants are chronically malnourished. Given this background, the government of Maharashtra with JICA support decided to conduct a Feasibility Study(F/S) aiming to contribute to the Millennium Development Goal of Eradication of extreme poverty and hunger and reduction of the infant mortality rate through the development and marketing of nutritional supplements such as RUSF (Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food) and therapeutic food such as Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for children suffering from severe and moderate acute malnutrition, as well as pregnant women and lactating mothers. These nutritional products are potentially effective for tackling malnutrition in India.
