The State of Sikkim in the eastern part of the Himalayas is rich in biodiversity and has tremendous tourism potential. The Department of Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management (DFEWM) has initiated a project for increasing the forest cover substantially for residents living in the forest fringe area, who are heavily dependent on the forest’s natural resources for their livelihood.
Supervise all biodiversity-related studies such as biodiversity baseline survey, climate change study, grazing study, flagship species habitats conservation study, etc.
Update protected area management plans.
Eco-development plans, ecotourism plans, and the Sikkim Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
Formulation of the ecotourism marketing strategy and its implementation for the state of Sikkim.
