The growth of commercial complexes at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) (business hub located in suburban Mumbai) is phenomenal. The major corporates from the private as well as public sectors have established their head offices in BKC. Located at the geographical center of the city, this attracts heavy traffic flow from all directions. There was an urgent need to connect BKC with the Eastern and Western Express highways through an elevated corridor. This need has been envisaged and an elevated road on Santacruz Chembur covering four junctions i.e., BKC junction, University Junction, Dr. Ambedkar Chowk, Vakola Junction, MTNL junction joining BKC to Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg was proposed.
